Middle of the Seto Inland Sea Seaweed, a Kasaoka Specialty
Eatable seaweed has been produced in Kasaoka for about 40 years. Particular care is paid to cultivating and harvesting the seaweed. It is carefully selected for its rich color and pleasing smell. Their spores are mated and only the harvests taken early in the growing year are made into products. The resulting seaweed features a fine taste, dissolves easily in the mouth, and is very popular as a gift item.
The people who make and sell the seaweed do so with the desire for everyone to try seaweed produced in Kasaoka.

Shaped like horseshoe crabs, these are “manju,” steamed buns filled with bean paste. With their thick, rich appearance and color and luster, they bear a very close resemblance to the real horseshoe crabs. Inside is bean paste made from “matcha” green tea leaves, used because when the white blood of the horseshoe crab is exposed to air, it turns green.
Selling confectionary for over 50 years, Tamariken has been awarded honorary gold prizes at National Confectionary Tourism Exhibitions. The “Oyako Kabutogani (Parent & Child Horseshoe Crabs)” name is a registered trademark.
